Audi R8 is a 2 seats sports car with a mid-engine introduced in 2006 by the German manufacturer Audi AG. The R8 uses a permanent quattro all-wheel drive system, an Audi registered trademark. Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform, the vehicle was developed and designed by the Quattro GmbH, a private subsidiary company. The Audi Space Frame uses an aluminum monocoque manufactured in a modern factory located in Neckarsulm. Audi R8 was unveiled at the International Geneva Motor Show in 2003 and at the Frankfurt International Motor Show the same year. Based in the Audi Le Mans concept car, many believed the name was inspired from the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In 2008, the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans Concept was presented at the Geneva Motor Show and the North American International Auto Show. Based on the Audi R8, this concept model is the first Audi road-going sport car powered by a 12-cylinder diesel engine. The 6 liter V12 uses the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) turbodiesel technology, a Volkswagen famous brand. This longitudinally mid-engine produces 493 hp, a powerful 738 lb-ft of torque, and uses permanent four wheel drive system. The Audi R8 TDI Le Mans Concept has a maximum speed of 202 mph and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4,2 seconds.

A six-speed manual transmission is paired with the powerful engine, plus variable-geometry turbos developing 38 psi of boost, injection pumps, urea-injection sanitizers, exhaust pipes with the latest catalysts, inter coolers and particulate filters. The high-pressure pump creates a 2,000 pressure bar that is evenly diffused in the combustion chamber, thus increasing power output, reducing emissions and decreasing fuel consumption.

To be able to handle such power, the brakes and suspensions have been modified and the cooling system improved: the NACA duct supplies more air into the engine. The front and rear vents increased with 20 percent. To make room for the massive engine, the rear bulkhead has been modified and moved forward.

The Audi R8 TDI Le Mans Concept was presented in a brilliant red color that accentuates its muscular proportions. Other new features are the passenger compartment with a glass roof and the glazed engine compartment behind. The NACA duct is located in the middle of the roof. The headlights and the rear lights have a three-dimensional LED effect that produces a glow very similar to daylight.

The interior is innovative and unique, with a monospoto that runs around the instruments and steering wheel. This car has it all, design, performance and Euro 6 emission standards. The price is still unknown and so is the average insurance cost. However the new concept model is anticipated to be more expensive than the former R8 models. For example the free car insurance quotes for the 2012 Audi R8 Spyder Quattro were about $3.400. We can only assume that the insurance premiums on the Le Mans Concept will exceed these average costs. Audi has always been on top of the most expensive cars to insure. The main reason for this is the fact that they sell powerful and luxurious cars which cost a lot more. However once you get behind the wheel of an Audi R8, the free car insurance quotes are the last thing on your mind. The pleasure of driving such a car is worth all the money in the world.
